What Should You Pay for Logo Design?
Where to get a logo designed and how much you should expect to pay
A logo is an essential part of your brand identity as a streamer and is often the first thing your viewers will see when browsing for your channel.
If you're serious about streaming, you need to make sure that your logo stands out and is a good representation of your brand and your content.
That being said, you don't need to fork out a fortune to get a custom logo designed (especially in the early days). As a new streamer you should be working on building up your brand and deciding what direction you want to take your channel and your content.
This doesn't mean you shouldn't be thinking about your logo, but the majority of times the first logo you use will be vastly different to the one you end up with further down the line, so there's no need to lay down a tonne of cash early on to get something designed you'll more than likely end up changing as your brand develops.

With all that in mind, let's go over a few options for having your logo designed and see what you should be spending!
Design Options
Online Logo Makers
A great pace to start out for your first channel logo
When you're first starting out, getting a logo made for free is the ideal option. You can get something designed that represents your channel and gets your name out there fairly quickly, with the obvious benefit of not having to put down any cash to do it!
The main thing to bear in mind if you choose to use a logo maker is that your logo will more than likely not be unique. Someone else out there will probably have a very similar (if not identical) logo to you which obviously isn't ideal if you're trying to build your own brand.
That being said, having something that looks professionaly designed will definitely help you to stand out in the early days of your channel.
Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for hidden fees! A number of so called "Free" online logo creators will let you create a logo for free but will charge you to download your files!

Freelancer Websites
You can get a great logo, even if it's not exactly unique
There's a tonne of places you can go to get a logo designed cheaply. Sites like Fiverr, Upwork and 99Designs are a great place to get professional freelancers who are willing to provide great work for little money.
The reason they can provide these designs for low prices is that they generally use premade logos from stock libraries that they have a licence to resell. This means they can charge little money and provide high-quality, professional designs.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with going down this route (we do the same thing for our lower budget design jobs!). Just be aware that you might get a logo that, although it's tailored to your specification, is based on the same design as someone else's logo.
In our experience these designers really put in the work to tailor these stock logos to your specification, so if you're looking for something professional at low cost absolutely hit up some of these freelancer sites!
Expect to pay: £5 - £45

Graphic Designers
Generally, a good graphic designer will stick with you for a long time
Picking a Graphic Designer can be a tough decision. There are a lot of things to take into account with Graphic Designers, but the most important thing to look out for is their art style.
A lot of Graphic Designers have a preferred art style when it comes to things like logos and emotes, so make sure you take a good look through their previous work and make sure the style of logo they provide matches your brand vision.
A good graphic designer will most likely stick with you for a long time and help you to further develop your brand. If you find a graphic designer with a style you like, make sure you build up a relationship with them, you'll probably end up getting more than you paid for!
We don't have any particular links to individual graphic designers, but a quick search for Graphic Design on Twitter or Instagram should give you a few thousand results to filter through (or you can get in touch with us)!
Expect to pay: £30 - £75
Branding Agencies
A more expensive option, but by far the most in-depth service you'll get
Design Agencies should be your last port of call, this is for when you really have your brand vision nailed and you're looking to really solidify your branding with a one-of-a-kind logo that will most likely be the last one you have designed.
A Branding Agency will not only provide you with a logo, but they'll sit down and discuss how else you can develop your brand and work towards bringing in high-ticket sponsorships and partnerships.
You should think about approaching a Branding Agency if you feel your channel is ready to start approaching these bigger sponsorship opportunities. They'll be in a good position to advise you on where to focus your branding attention as well as providing you with relevant artwork and really honing in on your target audience.
Expect to pay: £100+
Conclusion
As you can see there are multiple avenues you can go down to have your logo designed.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking your logo is set in stone and can never be changed once you've had something designed (but try not to change it too often!)
Your logo should evolve with your brand identity and should represent both your channel brand and your content, so make sure you really put some thought into your brand identity before settling on a logo.
There's absolutely no need to hand over hundreds of pounds (especially early on). But remember that you're paying for the experience and expertise of the person or company you hire, so if you're hiring someone who's been doing this a long time, you can probably expect to pay more!
Whatever option you end up going with, take your time. Ask for revisions. Explain your vision as best you can. And don't be afraid to go over the top with details! As Graphic Designers, we want to create something that matches your vision, so the more information you can give your designer the better!
